The goal of this design project was to create an effective brand for a student art gallery that served as a platform for the exhibition of under-appreciated artwork produced by university students. Since many artists face rejection due to the competition in the industry, this art gallery would spotlight student art that has been previously rejected or disregarded; hoping to offer talented individuals a second chance of making the cut. This initiative seeks to foster a vital link between the academic sphere and the practical world of art by facilitating connections between prospective art buyers, collectors, and enthusiasts – those who appreciate the city of Binghamton's existing art-viewing culture.
After working on numerous directions and finding ourselves unable to land on one, we went back to the drawing board. From scratch, we popped off the caps of our pens and started scribbling all our previous ideas on paper, trying to find the right handwritten style that best fit the theme. Then we found that the answer was right in front of us, scattered on the table. We decided that collage style was effective in communicating the handmade process of creating art. The cut up and crumpled texture resonates with the process sketching and drafting, calling to the artistic process of making and remaking, undoing and redoing, just as we had done as we created it.
