deciduous forests: a closer look | 2024

This project was a semester-long studio project in order to compile information about forests and exemplify the beauty of them. Initial sketches take a broader approach, but as I was determined to focus on the organic structure of the leaf, including its imperfections, I began to shift to a more visual heavy approach.

As the title suggests, the book highlights the details of these leaves, using scanned ink prints as soft backgrounds and images centered on the page. It evokes attention to the uniqueness of each tree. The final section takes the direction to the present era, bringing awareness to the subtle changes in the forest that could be evidence of climate issues and other forest problems.

cotton: from seed to shirt | 2024

The goal of this project was to take existing images, text, and research from visually unappealing books and configure them into an effective design book that created a visual narrative through image and text. I chose existing material related to cotton and the process of spinning it into cloth, hoping to highlight the natural process of its growth and the manmade involvement of creating fabric. This project was effective in communicating information in a visually interesting way.
Throughout the course of designing this book, I began to pull on the idea of past and present. Determined to use the existing images and turn them into a story, I converted them into bitmaps, using their grainy texture to evoke the fibrous aspects of cotton, calling to its natural origins as the book went on.

The Cut Gallery | 2023
Agamya Rao, Arianna Pilao, Josh Mitchell, Simon Liebskind

The goal of this design project was to create an effective brand for a student art gallery that served as a platform for the exhibition of under-appreciated artwork produced by university students. Since many artists face rejection due to the competition in the industry, this art gallery would spotlight student art that has been previously rejected or disregarded; hoping to offer talented individuals a second chance of making the cut. This initiative seeks to foster a vital link between the academic sphere and the practical world of art by facilitating connections between prospective art buyers, collectors, and enthusiasts – those who appreciate the city of Binghamton's existing art-viewing culture. After working on numerous directions and finding ourselves unable to land on one, we went back to the drawing board. From scratch, we popped off the caps of our pens and started scribbling all our previous ideas on paper, trying to find the right handwritten style that best fit the theme. Then we found that the answer was right in front of us, scattered on the table. We decided that collage style was effective in communicating the handmade process of creating art. The cut up and crumpled texture resonates with the process sketching and drafting, calling to the artistic process of making and remaking, undoing and redoing, just as we had done as we created it. The Canvas Collection | 2023

This zine was dedicated to my love for using canvas bags. I hoped to challenge the format of the zine by creating a foldable, double-sided poster that exemplifies all the bags I own and their unique qualities. A method of storytelling, this zine explains my thoughts on each bag, rates their visual quality, durability, and foldability: all things I value greatly when purchasing a bag. Using Kimberly Elam’s grid systems, I structured the page to flow from one bag to the next, creating a narrative that is both entertaining and visually compelling.
Each bag holds its own story that I describe in brief paragraphs, GT Pressura Mono as it evokes a more scientific structure that contrasts the pliable, organic shapes of the bags. The bold letterforms of GT America against the softer green hue of the paper and the subtle “stitched” lines of the fold marks also provide a sense of contrast that guides the eye across the page, from title to title, from bag to bag.

Binghamton University Marketing | 2024-2025

My senior year of college, I was hired as a Marketing Assistant for the Division of Student Affairs. Tasked with creating promotional materials for Binghamton University’s various departments and programs, I was responsible for designing print flyers, web banners, and social media stories. With each department came a different audience I was trying to reach, such as first-generation students who wanted to feel represented, students dealing with the stress of exam season, or individuals who wanted to hold themselves accountable on their health journey.
Although working within the University’s chosen color palette and typography proved to be challenging at first, over time I was able to find creative ways to make each piece of material have its own fresh look.

Mountainview Jams | 2023-2025

Mountainview Jams is an bi-monthly open mic event that happens in the Appalachian Dining Hall at Binghamton University. This event is meant to cultivate a community of student musicians and showcase their work not only to the campus but online as well. As a media intern of three years, I was tasked with photographing the musicians, creating social media graphics, and highlight reels to share online.
Initially, I made social media graphics based off of what was originally on the social media sites, but over time I began to form a more concrete identity, using Source Sans Pro as a display font and Brevia as the body copy. I also began to use a consistent color scheme to maintain a familiar look throughout the posts. See moresocial media marketing, video editing, photography
